This Soap Box Derby car was built in the winter of 1950-1951 by Dean G. Speilman of Freeport, Illinois.
He was 12 years old at the time, and raced the car in 1951 and 1952, finishing in the top ten in both
Freeport and Rochelle. Soap Box Derby cars are propelled by gravity and reach speeds approaching 50 mph
on the steeper grades.
